Navaeh Hosford, 3, died when the mobile home burst into flames in the early hours of Friday morning, according to reports.
Fire Marshal Ed Paulk said an initial investigation was conducted at the scene of the blaze shortly after firefighters had extinguished the flames.
“Our initial investigation doesn’t show anything criminal about the fire,” Paulk said. “It does appear that the fire started in the room where the fatality occurred. Our investigation will continue to determine what the exact cause of the blaze was.”
The child’s stepfather, Chad Barley, was injured in the incident, friends said.
“Chad was taken to the hospital with third-degree burns on his hands and face from where he was trying to get her (Navaeh) out,” a family friend said.
Other members of the family, including the toddler’s mother, Tosha Hosford, were not injured in the blaze.
Witnesses say reports indicate an electrical shortage in the room where the toddler was sleeping caused the blaze. The home also reported experienced a gas-line explosion as a result of the blaze.
