Gov. Bentley drops all AU Trustee recommendations

MONTGOMERY, AL
Alabama Governor Robert Bentley has withdrawn all nine names from recommendation for appointments to the Auburn University Board of Trustees.
The decision comes two days after Robert "Bobby" Lowder pulled his own name from consideration following public outcry from many in the Auburn community and even a lawsuit aimed at getting the entire selection tossed.
The lawsuit, filed on behalf of former Auburn Alumi Association President Andy Hornsby, has now been dropped. Hornsby said "it was definately a mistake" the way the selection was handled and he is happy that the governor's office made the decision to start over.
Governor Bentley said the decision was made so the selection committee that he called to a meeting for next Wednesday "will be in a position to consider all options..."
Bentley said he wants to continue to work with legislators, who promised not to bring his controversial appointments to a vote by the end of the session.
Bentley said he was "encouraged by the progress we are making toward a positive outcome."
The meeting of the Auburn University Board of Trustees Selection Committee will be held Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 8:00 a.m. in the Capitol Auditorium in Montgomery
