Fort Payne OKs alcohol sales at Dollar Generals

Fort Payne, Ala. (AP) - The Fort Payne City Council has approved alcohol sales licenses for area Dollar General stores.
The council voted unanimously Tuesday to approve the licenses, which had been greenlighted by the city's Alcohol License Review Committee. A total of 5 new alcohol sales licenses were approved, including the beer and wine sales licenses for the city's $3 General stores.
Opponents fear increased alcohol sales in the area could increase the number of drunken driving incidents and other alcohol-related crimes.
City Clerk Jim McGee said Dollar General stores across the state are requesting alcohol sales licenses in all areas that allow such sales and the state's Alcohol Beverage Control board has already reviewed and approved the licenses, including those to be issued in Fort Payne.
