MONTGOMERY, Alabama — A report by the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center shows there was a 10 percent decrease in the overall number of violent crimes reported in Alabama in 2010.
The report by the ACJIC was released Monday and showed that fewer murders, forcible rapes, robberies and aggravated assaults were reported in 2010 as compared to the number reported in 2009. There was a 24 percent drop in the number of robberies reported.
The report also showed a 5 percent decline in the number of property crimes reported. These include crimes such as burglary, larceny and theft of motor vehicles.
The report did show an 83 percent increase in the number of arsons reported in Alabama.
The crime figures are included in the annual "Crime in Alabama" report published by the ACJIC.
