Alabama tornadoes: 'My family is all dead' ...

PHIL CAMPBELL, Alabama -- "It's all gone," a man could be heard tell someone on his cell phone as he looked around at the damage from Wednesday's tornado damage in Phil Campbell, the TimesDaily newspaper reports.
One man riding a 4-wheeler blurted out: "My family is all dead," the newspaper reported.
Phil Campbell is Franklin County, where, according to the latest counts, 18 people were killed by Wednesday's storms. State emergency management officials say Alabama's death toll from tornadoes and storms has grown to 162 and will keep growing as rescue workers search debris.
Here are links to reporting on the storms from newspapers across Alabama:
Portions of Cullman leveled: Portions of the city of Cullman were leveled by tornadoes Wednesday afternoon, and nothing but darkened rubble remained of some city blocks by sundown, the Cullman Times reports. "I was scared to death," said a homeowner who had a tree fall on her home.
'Devastation' not ample to describe Calhoun County damage: Officials are busy in Calhoun County notifying next of kin and sorting through the rubble to see if there are other fatalities, the Anniston Star reports. "I don’t think the word devastation could be used to describe what happened in the north  part of the county,” Jerry Jackson, director of the Calhoun County EMA, told the Anniston Star.
