(ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Ala.) - Firefighters now say about 1,000 acres in Escambia County, Ala. have burned. The fire is about 80 percent contained.
Firefighters say they are setting smaller fires ahead of the wildfire, in hopes of stopping it.
According to Flomaton Police Chief Jeff McGraw 15 agencies are working to fight a large wildfire near Butler Street and Magnolia in Escambia County, Ala.
Authorities say the fire is under control, but the wind is blowing so hard that it's feeding it.
So far it has burned between 300 and 400 acres of land.
It's been burning since 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon.
Several firefighters had to be treated for smoke inhalation, but are expected to be okay. No homes were damaged or destroyed. Firefighters did go door-to-door evacuating people.
Authorities say Highway 113 in Flomaton is closed because of smoke.
