Record-high 101-degree temperature set yesterday, heat to continue with no rain in sight

 Monroeville, Al.-Today’s high temperature was a record-setting 101 degrees, breaking the previous record for June 1 of 98 degrees, recorded in 1998.  (Almanac temperatures are recorded by the National Weather Service at Mobile Regional Airport.)

Thursday: Mostly sunny. Highs in the low to mid-90s. Lows in the low 70s. Chance of rain 10 percent. Friday: Mostly sunny. Highs in the low to mid-90s. Lows in the 70s. Chance of rain 10 percent.
Synopsis: Forecasters call for warm conditions and sporadic cloud coverage through Friday, as minor frontal activity pushes toward the area. Mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies should accompany high temperatures in the low to mid-90s Thursday and Friday. Overnight lows should be in the low 70s. The chance of rain should be 10 percent or less for both days.
Rain chances should increase over the weekend, thanks to an approaching cold front. Highs should be in the low to mid-90s, with lows in the low 70s. The chance of rain should be about 20 percent.
Hurricane Watch: The hurricane season for 2011 officially kicked off Wednesday. The National Hurricane Center in Miami already has its eye on two areas of low pressure, one off Florida’s coast in the Atlantic and the other off Central America in the southwest Caribbean Sea. Forecasters called for a 20 percent chance of tropical development for the Atlantic system, and a 10 percent chance of development for the Caribbean system. Elsewhere, tropical formation was not expected.
