Pelham minister, Alabama Baptists president, says feelings mixed on immigration law

PELHAM, Alabama — The president of the Alabama Baptist State Convention has mixed feelings over the state's new immigration law.
The Rev. Mike Shaw of First Baptist Church of Pelham says all laws need to be enforced. But he's concerned about language in the law that could make it a problem to give a child a ride on a church bus to Sunday school.
Shaw says the Southern Baptist Convention passed a resolution last week saying the church must preach the gospel to everyone, whether they're citizens or illegal immigrants. He says the resolution called for Christ-like compassion, but not amnesty.
Shaw says he can't speak for anyone but himself, and he doesn't know if the state denomination will consider a resolution on the new immigration law when it meets in November.
