Ground breaking at new McDonald’s in Atmore at I-65

The new McDonald’s on Alabama Highway 21 will have the restaurant chain’s newest decor, developers said Friday.
City and chamber officials gathered with owner Ebrahim Maghsoud of Hafez Corp. for a ground-breaking at the site — although construction is already well under way on the new building.
“This is something we are very excited about,” said Maghsoud, who also owns the other McDonald’s restaurant in Atmore.
The restaurant is the latest new construction at Rivercane, where Hardees is already open and a Hampton Inn is also under way.
City officials have said they hope McDonald’s will bring new attention to Rivercane — both from customers passing by on Interstate 65 and from other business developers.
The new McDonald’s will be open 24 hours a day once it opens in August. Maghsoud said the tentative opening date is Aug. 12.
“This is going to be one of the newest decor they put in stores,” he said. “It will be more modern-looking, with brighter colors.”
Magshoud said the restaurant will also have a revamped counter service that is more accessible for customers, one that is so far only in a handful of McDonald’s restaurants across the country.
“It’s much easier for the customer,” he said.
Magshoud said he is looking forward to the second location because the other Atmore McDonald’s does a strong business.
“That’s become a very good volume store,” he said. “We have good support from the people in Atmore.”
