Dothan teacher accused of having sex with student

DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) - A Dothan teacher is expected to appear in court for a bond hearing following his arrest on charges that he had sex with a student.
Police arrested Northview High School teacher Calvin Bell-Tharpe on Friday and charged him with having sex with a student younger than 19, a felony crime.
Defense attorney Shaun McGhee told The Dothan Eagle that his client was jailed over the weekend and held on a $175,000 bond. The 30-year-old teacher was expected to appear for a bond hearing Monday morning in front of District Court Judge Benjamin Lewis.
Bell-Tharpe has been a Dothan educator for five years.
