Carl Smith, who was already partnered with Chuck Stevens, has bought out the longtime dealership.
A new sign went up Monday, and Smith said he is looking forward to meeting new customers in Atmore.
“We’re dedicated to being part of the community,” he said.
Smith said the dealership will focus not only on sales of new and used cars but on its service.
“We want Atmore and the surrounding people to come here,” he said. “We will offer quality backyard mechanic pricing to be competitive. And when you come to pick up your car, it will be waiting for you out front.”
The dealership is already working to boost its inventory of new cars, Smith said.
“GM has doubled our inventory,” he said. “And we can get anything you want, and we won’t charge you to get it here.”
Smith has been a car dealer since 1970, having worked in Alabama and in Michigan, where he spent time as a youth. Smith worked for many years for Al Serra, a legendary car dealer.
“Al brought us up right,” he said. “He taught us to take car of people and take care of cars.”
Smith and his family currently live in Fairhope, where they have a large horse farm, but he said he plans to move to Atmore.
Smith’s interest in horses — he and his family both raise, house and show horses — has led to some new business for the dealership as well.
Carl Smith Chevrolet will offer Shadow horse trailers for sale. The dealership will also offer customized golf carts, Smith said.
“We’re just trying to diversify,” he said.
Carl Smith Chevrolet is located in the heart of Atmore at 406 East Nashville Ave.
Sales and service at the dealership is available six days a week operating Monday through Saturday in all departments.
