Brush fires continue to be nuisance in area

After last week’s large outbreak of wild fires residents in the Atmore area are still at risk of brush fires with the climate continuing to remain very dry. Saturday morning, June 4 the dry conditions helped lead to a smaller brush fire behind a residence on Smith Dairy Road.
The small blaze, which Atmore firefighters on scene said appeared to have originated from a lawnmower that caught fire, was controlled quickly and only burned an area of around 100 yards.
Atmore Fire Department and Poarch Fire Department responded to the call and were able to squelch the flames before they reached a densely wooded area nearby.
