PGA Tour donates $100,000 to storm relief

PGA-Tour-logo.jpgBIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- The PGA Tour donated $100,000 to help with relief efforts of the Alabama tornadoes, part of several ways the Regions Tradition is trying to help from Shoal Creek this week.
PGA Commissioner Tim Finchem said an auction Tuesday night raised $50,000. Many golfers came to Birmingham with suitcases full of clothes and supplies to donate.
"We're trying to do what we can, and on behalf of the Champions Tour players, our hearts go out to the people who were affected with loss of life, loss of property here in Alabama," Finchem said.
Jerry Pate, who played golf at Alabama, donated 200 chainsaws from his Toro dealership. Half went to Birmingham and half to Tuscaloosa to assist with the cleanup.
Tom Lehman brought a couple boxes of clothes after receiving an email asking golfers to bring all of their extra clothes. Word started getting out on Twitter and Facebook as well.
Finchem said a number of players called PGA player Dicky Price in Tuscaloosa about how to help with fundraising efforts. Fans attending the tournament this week will be able to make donations at Shoal Creek.
