(PENSACOLA, Fla.) - A 20 year old Pensacola mom has been arrested on charges of cruelty towards a child and child neglect, after deputies say she left her child unattended while she went on a date.
Leah June Rabon was arrested late Monday night by deputies from the Escambia County Sheriff's Office. Deputies had gone to her apartment after receiving an anonymous tip the baby was there alone.
They say when they called her cell phone, she admitted the 9-month-old child was inside alone. “Once we determined that an infant was inside the apartment we made a forced entry into the unit,” said Deputy Chris Welborn. “We found the baby asleep in his bedroom and, thankfully, he was healthy.”
Deputies say Rabon told them she had left her son to go on a date. She told authorities she had been away for around two hours.
The Florida Department of Children and Family services placed the child into the custody of maternal grandparents.
Rabon was booked into the Escambia County Jail and is being held without bond.
