Man convicted of child abuse in burning of infant in Dothan

Gavel-Stock.jpgDOTHAN, Alabama — A jury in Houston County has convicted a 31-year-old man of child abuse involving burns suffered two years ago by a 7-month-old boy.
The jury deliberated nearly two hours on Tuesday before convicting Jamie Alan Abrams.
Assistant Houston County District Attorney David Atwell said the boy was burned while Abrams gave him a bath. Atwell said medical evidence in the case proved the boy likely received the burns from something more than hot bath water.
Attorney Tom Smith, who represented Abrams, said his client made statements he'd put the child in the tub for a bath, and left to go answer the phone. He said the defense believed the child turned the faucet.
Circuit Court Judge Kevin Moulton will sentence Abrams on June 22.
