Gators pull off the blank job, take SEC Tournament title at Regions Park
HOOVER, Alabama -- Florida got strong pitching from starter Alex Panteliodis and a rested bullpen and enough offense to scratch out a 5-0 victory Sunday against Vanderbilt in the SEC Tournament championship game.
Panteliodis pitched into the sixth, striking out five batters in 5.1 innings as Florida (35-16) won its first SEC title since 1991.
Vanderbilt (47-10), undefeated at Regions Park until Sunday, struggled defensively with a pair of errors and, uncharacteristically, in clutch situations, going 1-for-14 with runners in scoring position.
"They earned this. They're the better team right now," Vanderbilt coach Tim Corbin conceded.
Sunday's finale was played before an announced crowd of 7,845 at the Hoover ballpark.
The shutout was the first in an SEC Tournament finale since Vanderbilt's 13-0 thumping of Auburn in 1980.
