Florida edges Georgia 3-2, faces Vanderbilt in Sunday's SEC finale

Florida's Nolan Fontana hustled, turning a potential inning-ending double play into a fielder's choice, forcing the go-ahead run across from third base in the top of the ninth, as the third-ranked Gators edged upset-minded Georgia 3-2 Saturday night.

The victory sent Florida (44-16) into Sunday's SEC Tournament championship game matchup with second-ranked Vanderbilt.

It marks only the second time since 1996 the SEC championship has pitted two teams from the Eastern Division.

Tommy Toledo, Florida's starter in the tournament opener, picked up the win with an inning of relief. And Austin Maddox closed out, stranding the tying run on third, for his fifth save.

"It just had a weird feeling from the beginning," Florida coach Kevin O'Sullivan said. "It was just emotional."
