MONTGOMERY, Alabama — The Alabama Supreme Court has refused to reconsider its decision that allowed the state to keep giving driver's license exams in multiple languages.
Attorneys representing several Alabama citizens, including Republican state Sen. Scott Beason of Gardendale, sued state officials in 2008. They contended the use of multiple languages violates Alabama's Constitution, which says English is the official language.
The plaintiffs lost in Montgomery County Circuit Court. Then they appealed to the state Supreme Court, which ruled in March that the lower court decision would stand.
The last step was a rehearing request, which the justices rejected 5-0 Friday.
