900 People Apply For 80 Jobs

THOMASVILLE, Alabama - Imagine more than 900 people applying for what, right now, is 80 available jobs?
That's what happened in Thomasville, when a new steel facility opening there held a job fair Wednesday in the Thomasville Civic Center.
Lakeside Steel is building a mill in Thomasville to manufacture pipe products.
Thomasville Mayor Sheldon Day said, "The ranges here start, the entry level worker, over $10 an hour, all the way up to $22, $23, $24 dollars an hour, plus, production pay."
B.J. Waters of Coffeyville said, "Its great, I mean, its just great just to have jobs in Alabama, period."
Marilyn Johnson, the Director of Human Resources for Lakeside Steel, said, "We are screening them (applicants), and talking to them, and, finding out what their interests are, and, what we might be able to do."
The big interest for many people: just getting a job.
Lisa Pernell is from Jackson.
She said, "I've been unemployed now for almost two years. Well, two years, because my son will be three in June, and, its been a struggle."
Josh Dunegan from Coffeyville said, "I'm looking, and there's really nothing right now. Its really bad."
Lisa Phillips is looking for a job, and she and her husband own a construction company in Grove Hill.
Phillips said she had to lay off a lot of people.
She said, "You go from 30 employees to two. Its bad."
If you want to apply to work at Lakeside Steel, and weren't able to attend the job fair, you can apply on line at aidt.com.
