Instructor pilot killed in flight crash identified

MONROEVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Fort Rucker officials have identified the instructor pilot who was killed in an accident near Monroeville on Thursday.
Capt. Richard van de Perre, an instructor pilot with the Royal Netherlands Air Force, was pronounced dead at the scene of Thursday's accident. It occurred around noon on Thursday.
The Army says the cause of the accident is under investigation. Authorities said witnesses reported that the helicopter was flying low and appeared to strike a cable that guides the Packers Bend ferry across the Alabama River.
Ft. Rucker officials say the incident occurred during a routine training flight. The student pilot onboard the aircraft was not injured.
