Apache helicopter pilot pronounced dead at scene of Monroe County crash

MONROE COUNTY, Alabama -- An instructor helicopter pilot from Fort Rucker was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash this morning, officials said in a news release.
Fort Rucker officials were notified at about noon today that an an AH-64D, commonly referred to as the Apache, went down in the vicinity of Monroeville, Ala., officials said. The aircraft was piloted at the time by an instructor pilot and a Dutch student, officials said.
The student pilot was not injured in the incident. The crew was on a routine training flight, officials said.
Fort Rucker officials are on the scene of the incident, which is currently under investigation, officials said.
